The Eddie Taylor Collection

After viewing this website Eddie Taylor of Dunfermline kindly e-mailed several black

and white photographs from his personal collection.  Eddie was also kind enough to

provide the detailed captions that accompany the photographs.

ex-North British Class J35 no. 65288 pictured at Dunfermline shed on October 1966.  Eddie writes "I was a member

of the Dunfermline High School railway club which organised several trips around the UK in search of trains right up to

almost the end of steam.  The railway club was also involved in preparing 65288 for a local railtour by cleaning and

painting the loco in readiness.  I recall that one of the days I was at Dunfermline shed preparing the engine was

the day of the Aberfan disaster, hence the exact date.  I attach a picture of us pupils preparing the loco.

I am the head appearing immediately to the right of the chimney!"

"this was the last ever steaming of an engine from Dunfermline MPD when it came to the Upper Station to do a goods

to Crombie with enthusiasts' brake vans in tow.  However as it did not have a spark arrestor fitted it was unable to go

to Crombie, D6846 did the duty instead.  Regular steam working at Dunfermline came to an end on 13 March 1967,

with steam officially closed in Scotland on 1 May 1967.
