This 1954 shot shows Class A3 4-6-2 no. 60068 "Sir Visto' departing Waverley station with a train of "blood & custard" stock
bound for Carlisle. Named after the winner of the 1895 Derby, no. 60068 was a Waverley route stalwart during the 1950's.
Built as a Class A1in September 1924 and converted to Class A3 in December 1947 the locomotive was withdrawn in August 1962.

September 1961 and immaculate ex-LNER Class A4 4-6-2 no. 60022 "Mallard" is pictured leaving Waverley with "The Elizabethan".
The non-stop service to London Kings Cross was scheduled to take 6 hours and 30 minutes. Running only during the summer
months the train was named in celebration of the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II and the dawning of a new Elizabethan era.

September 1956 sees beautifully turned out ex-North British Class J83 06-0T no. 68470 standing at the east end of Waverley
station on pilot duties. The safety valves are lifting - just as well the locomotive is not under the roof canopy!

April 1957 and in a shot taken from an almost identical position as the image above we see ex-North British
Class J83 0-6-0T no's 68477 and 68474 on Waverley east end pilot duties. Both appear to be in immaculate
condition - a credit to the cleaners at St. Margarets depot where both locomotives were based.
