Taken in 1955 this shot presumably taken from the Scott Monument shows shows the west end of Waverley station.
The locomotives present include ex-LNER Class V3 2-6-4Tno. 67615 and an unidentified Class B1 and K1.
Fast forward 52 years and this same scene would show the extensive engineering work being undertaken
at Waverley to rebuild and realign certain platforms and increase overall capacity.

It's 10:10am by the clock on the North British Hotel and BR Class 6MT 4-6-2 no. 72005 "Clan MacGregor"
prepares to depart Waverley with a train to Perth. I wonder if the lady thought at the time that she was
the subject of this June 1963 photograph!

A short hop down Leith Walk brings us to Leith Central Station. Seen with an enthusiasts' special in April 1965 is BR
Standard Class 2MT 2-6-0 no. 78054. Opened by the North British Railway in 1902, the station was closed to passenger
traffic in 1952. The station, with the platforms removed, was used as a servicing point for Diesel Multiple Units from
their introduction in 1957 until 1972. This impressive structure was finally demolished in 1989 and the site is now
occupied by a ScotMid supermarket and the Leith WaterWorld swimming pool.
