Looking considerably cleaner than in the photograph on the previous page, ex-LNER Class A3 4-6-2 no 60079 "Bayardo"

moves onto the turntable at Haymarket shed in May 1959.  Built in Glasgow by the North British Locomotive Company

"Bayardo" was cut up at Doncaster Works on September 30, 1961.

ex-LNER Class D11/2 4-4-0 no. 62677 "Edie Ochiltree" stands on shed at Haymarket in this June 1952 photograph.

More than four years after nationalisation the locomotive still carries the apple green livery of the LNER.  The

lettering on the tender and the five-digit cabside number appear to be the only concessions to the change in ownership.

ex-LNER Class A2/1 4-6-2 no. 60507 "Highland Chieftain" simmers away at Haymarket Shed sometime in 1959.

Designed by Thompson this locomotive was built in June 1944 and withdrawn from St Margaret's shed in December

1960.  Note the eight-wheeled tender which was originally paired with ex-LNER Class A4 4-6-2 no. 4469

"Sir Ralph Wedgewood" destroyed in an air raid on York in April 1942.

Glinting in the sun at Haymarket is well-polished Class A1 4-6-2 no. 60161 "North British".  Designed by A.H. Peppercorn

49 of the locomotives were ordered by the LNER but delivered to British railways after nationalisation.  Appropriately

"North British" was first allocated to Haymarket shed.  Withdrawal came in October 1963 from St. Margaret's shed.

The locomotive was cut up at Inverurie Works in March 1964.
