ex-LMS Class 5MT 4-6-0 no. 45164 powers the 13:07 Waverley - Dundee train through the cutting beneath Edinburgh

Castle.  Note the fine rake of "blood and custard" liveried coaches in the train.  This picture dates from April 1957.

Passing through Prices Street Gardens with the 11:53 from Thornton Junction is ex-LNER Class K2 2-6-0 no. 61721.

The original K2 cabs were not popular with the Scottish crews, so between 1932 and 1935, the Scottish-based K2s

had side window cabs fitted.  This scene dates from June 1958.

A rather grimy ex-LNER Class A3 4-6-2 no. 60079 "Bayardo" runs light engine from Waverley to Haymarket shed

in April 1957.  This locomotive entered service in October 1924 as a Class A1and was converted to Class A3 in May

1928.  Withdrawal was to take place in September 1961.  Like many of the A3 locomotives and the Deltic diesel

locomotives that replaced them, "Bayardo" was named after a thoroughbred race horse.

April 1960 and and a very clean BR Standard Class 3MT 2-6-0 no. 77017 heads towards Waverley with an excursion train

from an unknown origin.  Only 20 of this class of locomotive were built.  No. 77017 was allocated to Hurlford shed
